   |   Re: Challengemodes?So... sticking an event in for this saturday evening... which Challengemode to do is up for talking about... but the aim is to go for going for gold... depending on the daily, we might try that (SPM/Brewery probably not... ) Anyways, i'll invite everyone who expressed an interest, and make Soren/winks admins of the event, so if anyone else wants in, whisper one of them!_________________

   |   Re: Challengemodes? Also, if you're planning on coming... be ready! don't want any Xanturion's complaining that we're not getting a gold on our very first pull, and then leaving... we will be resetting a lot... Also looking into all your talents and glyphs, so that if we run into a problem, you'll know if your class can do something about it...
Also - slightly optional, but if we're going for the best times it's more than worth it - optimise your character... I have a "challengemodes" gear and reforge, which puts me just above the haste breakpoint whilst inside challengemodes, and also has only 1 piece with crit on it (worst stat for me as a healer) - i'm not saying go out and farm a new set of gear, but reforging so you're not wasting stats at least is going to be helpful...

(as a suggestion, i would say Seige of Niuzao, as we were on track to a gold time up until the second to last boss pull... and 5.2's raid is sheduled to be in that area, so a portal there could be helpful to the guild, but any other suggestions welcome)

Back to the main subject, I 'd like to join but never been in a Challengemode before._________________

   |   Re: Challengemodes?Challengemode set it doesn't matter what ilvl the gear is, as long as it has the right stats on it, whereas raiding gear, the ilvl is generally one of the biggest deciders (intellect increase because of ilvl is bigger than most secondary stats...)also raiding gear for me has 4pc set bonus, despite the fact the stats aren't optimal, because the 4pc bonus is amazing... but it's disabled in challengemodes (as are any of the legendary gems)

And will add you to the event, but no offence, if we have a full group of people who've had experience in CM's, we'll probably take them... just because we're aiming towards the gold times...

   |   Re: Challengemodes?Another way to put it:
When in a challenge mode your stats are scaled down so they would correspond to if you were wearing gear of ilvl... Errr... I think it's 463.

What that means is, while a particular item with less than ideal secondary might actually be an upgrade for you, because your current item has a lower ilvl, it isn't better for challenge modes, because the ilvl doesn't matter - only the allocation of stats.

 For example:

As fury I want to be hit capped, expertise capped and then stack crit. Obviously I can't find items with only those stats without going way over the cap, so I'll have some items with mastery as well, but crit >>> mastery. And for the sake of completeness: Mastery >>> hastee.

So I have two items with the following stats and ilvl:

 1. Sorens awesome helm of pwn1337ness:
 ilvl: 463
 Str: 500
 Hit: 500
 Crit: 500

 2. Random fury warriors other helm of gaycrap (high ilvl):
 ilvl: 497
 Str: 700
 Hit: 700
 Mastery: 700

 3. Random fury warriors other helm of gaycrap (scaled to 463):
 ilvl: 463
 Str: 500
 Hit: 500
 Mastery: 500

In this case helm #2 would be the better choice for raiding, simply because of the extra raw stats - and I could also reforge some of that mastery into crit.

In challenge modes however, that helm would have the stats as shown for helm #3 - even with reforging that would be worse than helm #1.

This isn't the full story (and also an invalid example, because Blizzard doesn't scale hit/expertise to avoid putting you under the cap), but it's enough to understand the idea behind optimal challenge mode gear.
